Graeme first gained experience in the Royal New Zealand Air Force on both combat and non combat aircraft before joining civilian organisations as an aircraft engineer specialising in engine and aircraft maintenance. He has worked with a South Pacific airline as chief engineer and with an aircraft manufacturer as general manager.
